Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), Space Exploration Technologies Corp. CEO Asks Public's Help …

Elon Musk, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (commonly known as SpaceX) CEO, is seeking for help from public to determine what caused the explosion of one of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rockets earlier this month.

Falcon 9 Rocket Explosion

One of the Falcon 9 rockets has exploded during the pre-launch operation, two days before the official launch, at the Space Launch Complex at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Accordingly, the mysterious explosion has originated somewhere around the upper-stage oxygen tank.

Musk claimed that this incident is by far the most “complex failure” that the company has faced in more than a decade. He also elaborated that the engines were not even turned on during the routine filling operations, adding to the mystery and gravity of the explosion.

The incident has destroyed a $200-million communication satellite, which Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) was supposed to use to bring internet access to Africa

Cracking the Mystery

SpaceX is currently spearheading the ongoing investigation with the supervision of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

On Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) Twitter, Musk has pleaded for the public’s cooperation with the investigation, noting that any photos or videos relating to the recent incident can be of great help.

Since the cause of the explosion remains as a mystery, Musk has also personally taken it upon himself to directly get in touch with and ask for assistance from the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the US FAS via Twitter.

SpaceX’s Dilemmas

The investigation is still ongoing and there is no way to determine the financial implications of the recent explosion to SpaceX this early.

This incident marks the second Falcon 9 rocket failure in the company’s history. The first Falcon 9 rocket explosion, which took the company about three weeks to unveil the cause of, had occurred in June 2015.

Findings indicated that the rocket failure had been caused by a faulty bracket that was holding a bottle of helium. Roughly two minutes after liftoff, the over-pressurized tank led to an explosion.
